This blog will follow my journey to Nicaragua from January 19-29, 2009. I am traveling with a group of people of various ages and professions from around the country. We are representing the ELCA and we hope to learn about poverty, hunger and climate change.
Why did I name this blog "Mariposa?" Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish. I took this word from an idea called the Butterfly Effect. The Butterfly Effect is the idea that a butterfly could have a far-reaching ripple effect on subsequent events in a far away place. I wanted to show that we in the United States have an effect on people living in places like Nicaragua, and they have an effect on us.
